Every year, billions of birds die. The cause? Humans, and our impact. Since 1970, total North American bird populations have dropped by over 25%. 1 out of every 4 North American birds is now gone due to habitat loss, climate change, window strikes, urban predators, and more.
It's Colorflock's mission to help reverse this trend. We want North American birds to be protected and preserved for many generations to come.
Here's how we're doing that:
-
By raising awareness. Bird conservation starts with awareness. The average American likely cannot name more than 10 bird species. If we multiply that number, we multiply birds' chances of survival. Awareness leads to affection, and affection leads to conservation.
Colorflock creates merchandise featuring simple, beautiful, hand-drawn artwork that honors the uniqueness of North American bird species. By bringing new species of everyday birds into people's awareness, we hope to create bonds between birds and people that ultimately lead to conservation.
-
By giving. Half of Colorflock's profits go to non-profit bird conservation groups in North America. We donate to organizations like the National Audubon Society, Hawkwatch International, American Bird Conservancy, and various national, regional, and local groups promoting habitat preservation, bird research, and bird awareness.
Sure, we could line our pockets with the proceeds from T-shirt sales and, if we're really lucky, one day pass on that wealth to our kids. But we think that a thriving bird population that lasts for many more generations is worth way more than that, so that's our focus.
It's our mission to ultimately create merchandise for every single North American bird species. That's 2,059 birds by our last count! We have a long way to go to get there, but we'll keep trying. There's no such thing as just a bird, and we want to honor each and every one.
Thanks for being a part of the bird-loving community. Even if you don't buy a thing from Colorflock, we're counting on you to help bring birds into people's everyday awareness. And if you feel so inclined, set aside some of your charity dollars or volunteer time for bird conservation work. It really helps.
