American Woodcock

Few birds inspire as much devotion — or as much laughter — as the American Woodcock. Each spring at dusk, male Woodcocks performs one of birddom's great spectacles: nasal 'peent' calls from the ground, then a spiraling, twittering flight hundreds of feet into the darkening sky. Once seen, never forgotten.
