Anhinga

Anhinga

Meet the Anhinga—a distinctive waterbird known for its long, snake-like neck and striking silhouette. Often called the “snakebird,” it swims with just its head and neck above the surface and can often be seen perched along the water’s edge with its wings dramatically spread to dry in the sun. Found around warm freshwater wetlands in the southeastern United States, Anhingas use their sharp, pointed bills to hunt fish beneath the surface, making them just as impressive underwater as they are perched above it.
